William "Sonny Boy" Lyon, 86, a resident of 414 Lanier Street, died Tuesday, March 20 at Brantwood Rehabilitation Center. He was the son of the late Walter Lyon and Frances Thomas Lyon. He was a retired employee of Bandag, Inc.

He is survived by his wife, Panthea Henderson Lyon; two daughters, Diane L. Burrell of Franklinton and Althea Lyon of Oxford; a son, Kenneth Lyon of Garner; one sister, Betty "Peaches" Wortham of Oxford; two brothers, Levi Short of Roxboro and Judd Lyon of Asheboro; twelve grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, March 25 at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Granville Baptist Church by Rev. James Isaac III. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors Saturday, March 24 from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home.
