Vernita Dawes, 64, of Tabbs Creek Church Road, transitioned on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Duke University Hospital in Durham. She was born in Granville County to James "Buddie" Dawes and the late Elizabeth Taylor Dawes.

She is survived by her father, James H. Dawes of Oxford; and five siblings: Tammy Dawes and James R. Dawes (Jean) of Oxford, Pamela L. Dawes of Jacksonville, FL, William A. Dawes (Teresa) of Creedmoor, and Yamika Dawes of Oxford.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30pm, Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Wright Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Enon Rd, Oxford. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service.
