65, a resident of 9802 Ashburton Dr., Charlotte, died Monday, January 18 at Duke Medical Center. He was the son of Ruth Holman Cooper of Oxford and the late Marshall Cooper.

He was a graduate of Mary Potter High School in Oxford and attended Johnson C. Smith University majoring in Music and he sang in the touring choir. He also attended James Cleveland Workshops and Hampton University Minister's Conference and Choir Directors' Organists' Guild. He was employed at Trane Charlotte and he worked as a Teacher Assistant in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System at Reid Park and Statesville Road Elementary Schools. His special love was his role as Minister of Music at Greater Mt. Sinai Baptist Church for the past thirty years. He worked with seven choirs: Voices of Sinai, Wings over Sinai, Joyful Praise, Hymn Choir, Note Choir, Chancel and Cherubs Choirs. He coordinated several musical workshops to enhance the musical ministry at GMSBC and the Charlotte Community.

Other survivors include his wife, Dr. Elva Cozart Cooper; three daughters, Tiffany Jones of Winston-Salem, Tia Cooper of Charlotte and Tara Cooper of Greensboro; a brother and sister, Fredrick Cooper and Rita C. Eaton both of Oxford; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 25 at 12:00pm at Greater Sinai Baptist Church, 1243 West BLVD, in Charlotte, by Rev. George Cook, Jr. Burial will be Tuesday, January 26, at 11am at Belton Creek Baptist Church cemetery in Oxford. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to services at the church. A viewing is also scheduled for Sunday, January 24, from 11am until 5pm at Wright Funeral Home in Oxford.
