Obituary

82, a resident of 332 Owens Street in Stovall, died Wednesday, July 6 at Brantwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Oxford. He was the son of the late Herman Owens and Willie Lee Saddler Owens.

He was a former employee of Burlington Industries, Bandag and Tungsten Mine. In 1970 he would survived a 10 hour ordeal after being trapped 1500 foot underground after a cave-in at Tungsten Mine. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Cotten Owens; three children, Phyllis Williams (Nelson) of Oxford, Richard Karl Owens (Carolyn) and Odessa Smith both of Stovall; four grandchildren, Kim Owens, Karl Owens (Teresa), Derrick Smith (Christie) and Deneka Burton (Bryan); and thirteen great grandchildren;

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 11 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Stovall by Rev. Jimmy Hayes. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park. A viewing is scheduled for Sunday, July 10 from 11 a.m until 5 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home.
