94, a resident of 1655 Pope Road, Creedmoor, died Monday at his residence.  He was a native of Caswell County, NC. He was the son of the late Robert Smith and Texanna Williams Smith.

He attended primary and secondary schools in Caswell County. He later earned degrees from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA, Union Christian Bible College in Durham, NC, School of Divinity at Duke University in Durham, NC and the Master of Theology at Shaw University Divinity School in Raleigh, NC.  He was awarded Honorary Doctorates from Union Christian Bible College and Apex School of Theology (now Triangle School of Theology) in Durham, NC.

Rev. Smith retired after thirty years of employment at UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC, but he did not sit down or sit still.  He went on the hold a number of leadership roles throughout the community including Moderator, member of Executive Board and Board of Ordaining Council, County Line Missionary Baptist Association, Board of North Carolina General Baptist State Convention and Board of Trustees at Apex School of Theology and President of the Granville County Interdenominational Minister's Conference.  He has also been a faithful member of the Granville County NAACP and Concerned Citizens.

He served as Pastor of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Oxford, NC for thirty years and retired a second time in 2017.  He joined Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Butner, North Carolina where he served as an Associate Pastor until his health declined.  He was a Christian servant leader and loved both his church families.

He leaves to celebrate his legacy his wife of seventy-one years, Mrs. Jessie P. Smith; daughter, Dr. LaHoma Smith Romocki (Timothy); grandchildren, Kellie B. Wright (Brentley), Rozalia S. Romocki and Moses S. Romocki; great grandson, Justice; sister, Mrs. Texanna S. Gunter (MD); sisters-in-law, Ruth Parker, Frances Parker and Hazel Laws; cousins, Ernest Parker (Gracie) and Reverend John Doe (Gladys); special nephew, Rudy D. Laws.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church by Reverend Jeanette Paschall and Reverend Waverly Mills. A viewing is schedule for Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 at Wright Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends Saturday at 12:30pm at the church.  COVID guidelines of face mask and social distancing will be observed.
