83, a resident of 122 Webb Place, died Sunday, September 20, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. She was the daughter of the late Jessie Chavis and Cora Jones Chavis. She was a member of Baptist Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by four daughters, Shirley Lewis of Henderson, Angela D. Lewis of Winston-Salem, Dorothy Lewis and Vivian Reid both of Oxford; seven sons, Elvin Lewis of Bullock, Wallace Lewis of Henderson, Ricky Lewis of Winston-Salem, James T. Lewis, Ozon Lewis, Bernard Lewis and Carlton Lewis all of Oxford; three sisters, Elizabeth Zackery of Henderson, Ernestine Parker of Oxford and Jean C. Brown of Durham; twenty-seven grandchildren; and twenty-eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, September 24 at 1:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home Chapel by Reverend Ollie Ellington and Reverend Mack Timberlake. Burial will be in Baptist Grove Baptist Church cemetery. Viewing will begin Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. The family will receive visitors Wednesday, September 23 at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Vivian Reid, 4089 Cornerstone Drive in Oxford.
