61, a resident of 9142 Thornton-Royster Rd., died Friday, June 23 at Duke Medical Center. He was the son of the late Willie Ray Umstead and Josephine Green Coles Umstead.

He is survived by his wife, Mattie Newbie Umstead; a daughter, Sherry Shervon Harris of Atlanta, GA, Michael Mark Anthony Harris of Newark, NJ, Leon Marcellous Harris and VanShelton Ray Umstead both of Oxford; a sister, Dr. Bridgette Coles-McAden of Durham; a brother, Timothy Edward Coles of Oxford; and twenty grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 27 at 2:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home Chapel by Bishop J. Phillip Betts. Burial will be in the New Light Baptist Church cemetery. A viewing is scheduled for Monday, June 26 from 11:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home.
