Marva Elisabeth Davenport, beloved daughter of Mr. Marvin and Mrs. June Chavis Davenport was called home peacefully by the Master on New Years Day 2025 surrounded by family and friends. She fought a valiant battle, full of faith, for over 18 months. Marva was born in Lenoir, North Carolina on February 19th, 1966. Marva grew up in Charlotte loving all things history, music and Nascar, and like an encyclopedia would lovingly share details with her companions. Never a stranger, always the same sweet and loving Marva to anyone she would meet. Marva loved attending concerts and races at the Charlotte Motor Speedway with her dad.

Marva graduated from West Charlotte High School, Central Piedmont Community College, St. Augustine's University and Leadership Granville.

Marva served with many civic organizations and was always willing to give more as Secretary of the Nature Lovers Garden Club, past Secretary of Les Gemmes Oxford Chapter, and Secretary of the John Chavis Historical Society; and was a proud alum, co- founder and the first president of the Oxford Chapter of the St. Augustine's University alumni association.

Marva was not only a life-long learner, but she was also a teacher. She shared her talents as a gifted tutor with young people at the Boys and Girls Club of Oxford, St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church, and SWAG. Most recently Marva, teacher, served students at Clark Street Elementary School in Henderson.

Marva had a photographic memory which was amazing, equally impressive and informative. Marva also had a terrific sense of humor. Marva loved to dance, especially in high heels. She also wrote poetry, the highest form of literary expression. Marva wrote and read poetry for many over the years in her unique style.

Most of all, and most importantly, Marva loved the Lord and served as long as she could in many capacities at St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church as crucifer, lay reader, chalice bearer and singer in Arabic.

Marva leaves to cherish her precious memory her caretaker and loving cousin, Ajulo E. Othow and son, Collis Norman, her uncle, Rev. Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis, her aunt, Dr. L. Francine Chavis and God-aunt Carol Faye Payton Blackburn, a host of loving first cousins in California, New York and North Carolina: Chris Price, Lynda Price, Carmen Price, Dr. Steven Price, Sharon Kari Kari, Anthony Moore, Paula C. Jones, Ben Chavis III, Renita Peace Timberlake, Nicole Bullock, Ana Chavis, Franklin Chavis, John Chavis, Reginald Chavis, Gwen Hobgood Jones, Sandra K. Hobgood, Janice Hobgood, Abang Anade Othow and her God-siblings the children of her late God-parents, Max and Karen Doll from Lenoir, North Carolina.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, January 5, 2025 at St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church. Burial will follow in the Chavis Family Cemetery. Viewing will be from 4 - 6 pm, Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Wright Funeral Home.
