85, a resident of 416 Owen St., died Thursday, Feb. 1 at his home. He was the son of the late Paul Downey, Sr. and Annie Mae Strong Downey. He was a retired brick mason and a former employee of the former Burlington Industries.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Davis Downey; two daughters, Queen Esther Bowden of Stovall and Mary Ann Brandon of Oxford; a son, John Henry Downey of Stovall; two sisters, Bessie Jones of Oxford and Sarah Davis of Henderson; two brothers, James Downey of Henderson and Paul Downey, Jr. of Stovall; ten grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 8 at 12:00 p.m. at Davis Chapel Baptist Church by Rev. Steve Hargrove. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 7 from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home.
