Judge William "Hoot" Thornton, 86, of Rougemont transitioned on Wednesday, April 2, at his residence. He was born in Granville County.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm, Saturday , April 12 at New Saint James Missionary Baptist Church, 4130 Pixley Pritchard Rd, Timberlake, NC 27583) by Pastor Shaun Woods. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing is scheduled for 4 to 6 pm, Friday, April 11 at Wright Funeral Home.

Survivors include two daughters: Jessica Mangrum of Newark, New Jersey, and Chantelle J. Thornton Smith (Richard) of Blacklick, Ohio; sister, Shirley T. Johnson of Rougemont, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
