85, a resident of 38 Squirrel Hollow Way, Henderson, died Thursday, May 9 at his home. A native of Granville County, he was the son of the late Nathaniel Thornton and Beulah Thorpe Thornton. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

He is survived by three sisters, Esther Terry, Estelle T. Puryear, and Geneva Thornton all of Oxford; and two brothers, Lou Perry Thornton of Henderson, and William Thornton of Oxford.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 13 at 2:00 P.M. at New Hope Granville Baptist Church by Rev. James Isaac III. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive visitors at the home of David and Estelle Puryear, 3091 Watkins-Wilkinson Road in Oxford.
