91, a resident of 501 East Whitaker Mill Road, Raleigh, died Monday, Sept. 13  at Colombia Hospital in Columbia, MD. He was the son of the late Robert L. Hargrove and Mary Harris Hargrove. He was a 20 year veteran of the United States Army.

He was a graduate of Mary Potter Academy. After High School he enlisted in the United States Army wishing to see some of the world. He served in Japan, Germany and during the Korean War. After his tour of duty he reenlisted and served as a Medical Assistant at the Veterans Administration in Palo Alto, CA. He would marry Oxford native, Marthelia Burroughs, and they lived in Santa Clara, CA until her death in 2010. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Deacons.

He is survived by two sisters, Janie H. Ingram and Lenore H. Harris (Lawrence) both of Oxford; many nieces and nephews (one of whom, Tressie Rooks of Columbia, MD, provided his final care). He was predeceased by siblings, Robert, Charles, George and Mary Allen.

Entombment will be Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 11am at Meadowview Memorial Park. There will be a viewing from 10am-11am. The Hargrove family has entrusted his care to Wright Funeral Home.
