93, a resident of 5503 Antioch Road, died Monday, October 15 at Pettigrew Rehabilitation Canter in Durham. He was the son of the late James Alexander Williams and Jessie Chavis Williams. He was a retired Army veteran.
He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Deacons. He assisted with the first "Meals on Wheels" in the Antioch Community. He was a member of Blooming Star Masonic Lodge #53, Order of the Knights of Pythagoras, and was a 33rd Grand Inspector General.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Mable Peace Williams; two daughters, Sandra Mitchell and Tammy W. Black both of Oxford; a brother, Jasper Williams of Wilson; three sisters, Dora Pettiford, Callie W. Gill and Alice W. Faucette all of Oxford; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 20 at 3:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Joe Shaw, Jr. Burial, with military honors, will be in Antioch Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at 605 Coggeshall Street. Several fraternal orders will be performed Friday, October 19 between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
