82, a resident of Webb Place, died Thursday, March 16 at Duke University Hospital. He was the son of the late James Roscoe Latta and Eula Lyons Latta. He was a retired truck driver and an employee for the city of Montclair, NJ for over twenty years.
For many years he was a devoted member of Prince Hall Masonic Lodge in Montclair, NJ where he was currently a past Worshipful Master with high esteem. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing basketball, football, and softball. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He earned a "Black Belt" in martial arts and was a boxer.
He is survived by his wife, Catrelia Smith Latta; one son, James Ellis Tony Latta, Jr. of Durham; two daughters, Lisa Stainback and Pat Jenkins; grandchildren, Aziz Latta and P'Tre Patker; niece and nepher, Deborha Bagby and Derek Bagby; a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 21 at 1pm by Rev. Charlene Morton on the grounds of Wright Funeral Home. A viewing is scheduled for Monday, March 20 from 5pm-7pm at Wright Funeral Home. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park. Covid-19 protocols of facial coverings and social distancing of six feet or more will be observed.
