Dr. James J. Gooch, 79, of Oxford, transitioned on Sunday, November 16, 2025 at his residence. He was born in Granville County to the late Hubert Lee Gooch, Sr and Willie Ada Fleming Gooch.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda Lowe Gooch; two sons: Julian Gooch of Oxford and Gerik Gooch of Decatur, GA, and one granddaughter, Madison Gooch.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm, Sunday, November 23 at Synama Grove Baptist Church (3166 Tar River Rd, Oxford, NC 27565). Burial will follow in the Gooch Family Cemetery. Viewing will be from 5 to 7 pm, Saturday, November 22 at Wright Funeral Home Chapel.
