James Henry Dawes, known to many as Buddy, transitioned on Monday, May 11, 2026 at his residence at the age of 90. He was born in Granville County to the late Henry and Lucy Smith Dawes.

He is survived by three daughters: Tammy Dawes and Yamika Dawes both of Oxford, Pamela Dawes of Jacksonville, FL; two sons: James "Ronnie" Dawes (Jean) of Oxford and William "Heavy" Dawes (Teresa) of Creedmoor; two sisters: Claudette Dawes of White Plains, NY and Tina Dawes of Newark, NJ; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended relatives and caring friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm Monday, May 18, 2026 in the Chapel of Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing will be from 1pm to 2pm Monday.
