93, a resident of 3663 W. Antioch Drive, died Friday at her home. She was the daughter of the late Ollie Royster and Missie Jane Puryear Royster.
She taught in the public school systems of South Carolina and North Carolina for over thirty-five years. In 1979 she was the recipient of the Granville County "Teacher of the Year" Award. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Les Gemmes, Inc., American Legion Auxilliary, Alumni Associations of both North Carolina Central University and North Carolina Agriculture and Technical University of Greensboro. and was a dedicated member of New Jonathan Creek Baptist Church, where she learned Service and Sacrifice.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Augustus "Gus" Washington; her daughter, Sheldonia Caprice of Oxford, Melvin Oakley whom she reared as a son; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 1 at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church by Rev.Raymond Lassiter, Rev. Edward Davis and Rev. Leroy Anderson. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park. A viewing is scheduled for Friday, May 31 from 11:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home.
