72, a resident of 4063 Dooster Street, died Friday, January 8 at his home.  He was the son of the late Robert Lee Hester, Sr. and Rebecca Royster Hester.

He was a 1966 graduate of the former Mary Potter High School and did further study at North Carolina Central University. He received an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Vance Granville Community College. He was a former Sergeant with Pope Youth Center.  He was a decorated Veteran of the Vietnam War, a past member of the Blooming Star Masonic Lodge #53, past member of the Consistory #95 and past member of Imran Temple Order of Shriners #168.  He was a valued employee of the former Burlington Industries for over twenty-eight years and owned Hester's Snacks, Etc.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as church Treasurer for over thirty-six years.

He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Charlotte Greene Hester; a daughter, Terilyn E. Hester of Durham; a niece/daughter, Shawanda H. Lawrence (Glenn) of Franklinton; a brother, Robert L. Hester, Jr. (Catherine) of Lansing, MI; a sister-in-law, Helen Greene Greer of Henderson; twelve brothers-in-law, Joe Greene, Jr., Earl Greene, Sr., Ervin Greene (Ludia), Henry Greene (Mae), Michael Greene, Leon Greene (Tracey), Kenneth Greene (Lue Wanda), and Otis Greene all of Oxford; Larry Greene (Marilyn) of Wake Forest, Keith Greene, Donald Greene and Ronnie Greene all of Durham.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 13 at 1:00 PM at Wright Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Edward Davis (services will be limited to fifty attendees, face coverings required and social distancing).  Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park.  A viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, January 12 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Wright Funeral Home.  Flowers will not be accepted.
