78, a native of Oxford and a resident of Newark, NJ, died Monday, December 7, 2020 in Newark, NJ. She was the daughter of the late Cleveland Jones and Maggie Beth Jones.
She was married to the late R. T. Harris and was the mother of his six children. After his death she would later marry the late Amos Beverette of Newark, NJ and would become the mother of his son.
She was educated in the public schools of Granville County. While living in North Carolina she was employed by the Morton family as a farm worker and housekeeper. She loved people and she loved playing Bingo. Emma was a strong-willed person who stood by her convictions. When she was wrong - she was still right.
Others who predeceased her were two children Wallace Harris and Louise Harris; three sisters, Mary B. Hicks, Hallie V. Shackleford and Lillie E. Jones.
She is survived by her daughter, Lucille Harley (Izell) of Jersey City, NJ; four sons, Thomas C. Harris, Robert T. Harris (Carmetta), John C. Harris all of Oxford, North Carolina, Nathaniel Beverette (Raesheea) of Newark, New Jersey; four grandchildren, Rayeshell C. Jones, Raesheea and Fajr Muhammed-Gonzoles, and Lynia Beverette; a great grandchild, Marquise Johnson; a sister, Julia Hester (Jimmy) of Oxford, North Carolina; two brothers, Mac Allen and Robert Allen; three aunts, Luna Taborn, Betty Carol Wilcox and Lillie Juanita Jacobs; two sisters-in-law, Lillian B. Wilkerson and Sarah M. Curtis; a vast number of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and caring friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 13 at 11:00 A.M. at Wright Funeral Home Chapel. Chapel services are limited to fifty attendees and Covid-19 guidelines will be observed - face coverings and social distancing of six feet or more. Anyone with a body temperature of 100 or above will not be admitted.
