78, a resident of 4065 Salem Farm Road, died Tuesday, June 7 at Veteran's Hospital in Durham. He was the son of the late Ernest Clayton and Eunice Thornton Clayton. He was a US Army veteran, having served as a member of the 82nd Airborne. He was a graduate of Elizabeth State Teachers University.
He is survived by a step-son, Sean Walker (Shelly) of Manchester, CT; a step-daughter, Ingram Walker of Elizabeth City; two nieces, Gwen Diggs (Robert) of Greensboro, and Helen Lindsey of Oxford; two nephews, Ernest Lindsey of Oxford and David Lindsey of Greensboro; a brother-in-law, Michael Miller of Hartford, CT; a sister-in-law, Marsha Smith (Rev. Quintell) of Newark, NJ; three step-grandchildren; a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.
Funeral services, with military honors,have been rescheduled for Monday. June 13 at 1:00 P.M. at New Hope Granville Baptist Church by Reverend James Isaac III. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing is scheduled for Sunday, June 12 from 11:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to services at the church.
