67, a resident of 2658 Bodie Currin Road, died Thursday, April 15 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Esco Yancey, Sr. and Lural Throckmorton Yancey. She was a 1971 graduate of Person Senior High School in Roxboro. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Winston-Salem State University, a Master's Degree in Biology from Clark-Atlanta University, a Doctor's Degree in Immunology from Wake Forest university, and a second Master's Degree in Theology. She did research at Duke University, UNC University and Yale University.

She held teaching positions at Sacret Heart University, Holy Family University and Community College of Philadelphia. Dr. Thompson worked as an Administrator at the University of Bridgeport for nine years, as the Director of Human Nutrition, Faculity Director of Associate of Arts Program and Co-Director of the School of Management at Eastern University for ten years.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. Dr. Vernon Thompson; three sons, Vernon Thompson (Bennyta) of Bridgeport, CT, Vernard Thompson of Reading, PA and Vershawn Thompson of Baltimore, MD; three brothers, Esco Yancey, Jr. of Deland, FL, George Yancey (Geraldine) of Roxboro and Richard Yancey (Mimi) of Lorton, VA; and two grandchildren.

Rev. Dr. Wilbert Lee Richardson will conduct graveside services Tuesday, April 20 at 2:00 P.M. at Huntsville Baptist Church cemetery. A viewing is scheduled for Monday, April 19 from 2pm-6pm at Wright Funeral Home. All services will observe Covid-19 protocols of facial coverings and social distancing of six feet or more. The viewing is limited to no more than ten people in the room at any one time.
