94, a resident of 3663 West Antioch Drive, and Deacon Emeritus of First Baptist Church, transitioned Monday, January 29 at his home. He was the son of the late William "Billy" Washington and Katie Haynes Washington of Lady's Island, SC. For years he was Oxford's only shoe repair expert. He was a decorated veteran of the United States Army, where he specialized as a helicopter engine mechanic.

He is survived by three children, Constance Reams of New Orleans, LA, Sheldonia "Caprice" Simmers (Jeffrey) of the home and Melvin Oakley of Henderson; and twelve grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 10 at 2pm at First Baptist Church by Rev. Raymond Lassiter. Burial with full military honors will be in Meadowview Memorial Park. A viewing is scheduled for Friday, February 9 from 5pm-7pm at Wright Funeral Home. Facial coverings are mandatory for all services.
