61, a resident of 222 Lochwood Dr., Raeford, died Saturday, Jan. 4 at UNC Hospital. He was the son of the late John D. Puryear and Alzada Hicks Puryear. He was a retired employee of the United States Postal Service and a veteran of the United States Army.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Thomas Puryear; two daughters, Lakisha Puryear of Fayetteville, and Monique Foy-Gamble of Rolesville; two brothers, Ronnie Puryear of Knightdale, and Reggie Hicks of Oxford; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Jan. 10 at 2:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Jerry Thomas. Burial will be in Huntsville Baptist Church cemetery. A viewing is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 9 from 11:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at the home of Reggie Hicks, 5209 Antioch Road.
