57, a resident of 4907 Wineberry Drive in Durham, died Sunday August 27 at Duke Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Hasty and Celeste McCullum Hasty of Laurenburg.

She was a faithful member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 4610 Fayetteville Street in Durham and Director of East Durham Regional Library. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from Elizabeth City State University and a Master in Social Work from North Carolina Central University.

She is survived by her husband, Luther Edward Speed; a son, Quentin Randell Speed (Ashley), Durham; a daughter, Brittany Celeste Speed, Durham; five siblings, Barbara Hasty of Chester, SC, Audrey Hasty, Clara Hasty, Allen Hasty and Moses Hasty all of Laurenburg.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Sept. 1 at 12:00 P.M. at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church by Pastor William Henderson. Burial will be in New Hope Granville Baptist Church cemetery. A viewing is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 31 from 11:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home.
